The 'Wall of the Town' was often only in solid form at the gates; the houses sometimes acting as rampart. Mentioned at the beginning of the 13th Century, much of the rampart remains, with 4 of it's 8 gates (see 4 and 11) and a postern (2). Th present layout is a result of the extension of the fortified area at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. It was subject to rebuilding in the 14th and 15th centuries. |
